I am running Windows 11 on my latp top but show Windows 10 on Firefox

I started using Firefox because I was having issues with cliches in my banking app with Google. And I don't like using google. My grand daughter recommend Firefox.

I have Windows 11 on my laptop and downloaded Firefox for Windows 11. Everything worked great for a while, then I started having the same cliches with Firefox that I was having with Google. The bank IT tech support advised me to clean my cache. So I did and everything was fine,,,,, for a few weeks and now it has done it again. This caused me to go back and clean my cache again, I did that, restarted my banking app and now it is working fine.

The most confusing part is. when it cliched this time. I went in to verify my Firefox version and my Windows version . The best I could tell, my windows is 11 but my Firefox in 10, so I don't know what I'm doing. Why would is show that when I downloaded the version 11?

Finally, am I going to have to clean my cache on a regular basis or is there some way I can have it cleaned automatically by my computer?

I am 70 years old and I have worked on my own computer since they first came out with home computers with dial up modems with out windows, We had to use DOS commands,.. So I use to know my way around computers pretty darn well.. Now technology is so advanced it is like Greek to me. I need some easy instructions and a K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Silly). So can and will someone talk plan English to me?

If the "Windows 10" identification was inferred from the user agent headers, that's actually correct. On one side internally the Windows report to Firefox as "Windows NT 10.0" anyways — not that it couldn't be identified more precisely from build versions, but on the other hand for privacy purposes the exact system version was frozen in time a few years back, to report "the same" for all the users, to not leave superfluous information for the sites and trackers to profile on. For e.g. Macs it also reports an older system version, BSD systems appear as Linux, and all platforms report as 64–bit Intel no matter whether they're 32–bit or ARM actually. So the slightly incorrect platform and architecture are actually intentional.

(And your version is fine. In the sidebar here you can see that Firefox knows and identifies your W11 version as expected, by adding the "Windows 11" tag to it.)

As for the banking app getting tripped up over time just by its own data, I'd actually advice using Private Window for that. The idea is once you close the private browsing tabs, it cleans up everything after itself, so the next time you need to access the bank, it will start with a clean slate again. (There are also other possibilities, depending on what actually resolves your issues… if by clearing caches you only really mean cache, or it's rather the persistent things like cookies and site data.)

Windows 11 is basically based on the same NT 10.0 as Windows 10. Perhaps when Microsoft actually makes a new version of Windows they will do so on a new NT.
