On the touchpad of the laptop. It is not a touchscreen. And it's a recent development, it never used to "swipe" or navigate if swiped left or right.

Hmm, I don't know why that doesn't work on mine; maybe it doesn't understand how many fingers I'm using. Here is how you can clear the Back and Forward actions. Hopefully just removing them will solve the problem and you won't need to assign a different action.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.gesture.swipe and pause while the list is filtered. Firefox should display four preferences (down, left, right, up).

(3) Double-click the browser.gesture.swipe.left preference to display an editing field, delete its contents, then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

(4) Repeat with the browser.gesture.swipe.right preference.

Any improvement?

Yep, that worked. It used to be off but the latest Firefox update deleted that user preference and reset it to broken. I did the Google search but nothing came up and there were no posts about the new about:config setting.
