Thunderbird dropping some messages from gmail.com

more options

I use Thunderbird to download messages from gmail.com. Thunderbird has begun to download and immediately drop some of the messages. I see the downloaded heading and then it disappears from the inbox. Some dropped messages are from sources that I regularly have received from. Because I see the message heading and then it is gone, I believe the problem lies with Thunderbird. Perhaps a setting needs to be changed? How can I fix this? Thanks, John H

Check the Spam folder? Is the account accessed from multiple devices?

Thunderbird does not display a SPAM folder; it only has JUNK folder that does not contain any of the missing messages. The use of Thunderbird is limited to my PC. Any other thoughts?
