The bookmark star can't remove certain bookmarks

When I go to a web site via the bookmarks the bookmark star will turn blue and give me the option to edit bookmark or delete it. But some of my bookmarks don't show the blue star and I have to go to "show all bookmarks" to delete or edit.

Why do some web sites invoke the blue star and other bookmarks don't?

The star is blue only if you are on a web page that is listed in the Bookmarks Manager.

FreddMcD I am on the web page.

Here is an example. In a folder on my bookmarks is a web site called "Open port check tool" https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

When I open the site the star is not blue. I go to the site bookmark it again and the star then turns blue when I use the recently created boookmark with everything the same except I place it in a different folder for comparison.

It is likely that the URL of such a bookmark redirects to another page when the star isn't highlighted. You can edit the location field of the old bookmark or create a new bookmark in such a case.

Core-el That is incorrect. The web address for both are identical https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ The names are identical.

This suggest a corruption in the bookmark. Is there a method to check validity?

The best way is to start at that website's home page and manually go to the page you want. Once you are there, create a new bookmark.

FredMcd I am aware of how to fix the problem as my description of diagnosing the problem shows. The only difference between the bookmarks that I can see is the folder.

Can I perform a more detailed examination of the bookmark. I have a few others that do the same thing.

Hello mace2,

Would you please take a look at this thread and see if maybe you can find an answer there :

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder :

Either type in the address bar about:support or :

3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Help ( next to the ? ) => Troubleshooting Information' and scroll down to 'Places Database' => 'Verify Integrity'

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

The places database finds no fault the database is labeled sane. I am not sure about cor-el recommendation as that seems to be the entire profile modification of Firefox.

I still have a few bookmarks that do not show up a blue star.

Here is the result of "places database"
