Did you lose the entire Composition toolbar? If so from the Menu Bar select View-Toolbars and turn it back on.

You need to be in a Write window when doing this.

There is no tool bar or anything but basic "write" program. I can enter a letter, I can open "reply" and enter info but I can do nothing else with it. If I didn't have this reply box, I could not reply to it.

If the menu bar is missing also pressing the alt key or F10 will make it appear.
