FoxTab does not work since i have updated firefox to 11.0 and even after installing its recent updates. the top sites are not shown on the homepage but a background is present.

You are running the beta version of Firefox, which FoxTab doesn't support just yet. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxtab/ (read the version information section). However, if you download the official Firefox 11 release www.getfirefox.com ) Foxtab should work perfectly find with that.
