Installe latest version. not compatible, and now I can't get the icon off my doc

Installed latest version (4) and it's not compatible. I can't remove the icon from my doc (Mac OSX 10.5.8) tried Time Machine and re-installed Firefox 3.6.15 , replaced the pref pane via Time Machine but the "Newer" icon is not capable of being deleted from the doc and the old one can't replace it.. What's the workaround and why on earth didn't the installer warn me of the incompatibility ?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.
