Firefox is redirecting all web searches to trash sites, need a fix.

Imac is running OS 10.6.4. Web searches done on Firefox are being redirected to junk sites. Had the same issue with Safari, deleting cookies cleared that up. Deleting cookies in Firefox did not help. Am looking for suggested solutions.
