After showing a few web pages the word "stopped" comes up and Firefox hangs and I have to manually shut down the .exe in task manager. I have tried all listed remedys and none work.. About to dump firefox in the bin!!

Which security software (firewall) do you have?
Some like ZoneAlarm have been reported to cause such issues.
I am using McAfee but it has never caused this problem before. I have narrowed it down to Java. I have the latest update. If i switch Java off it does not do it. Any suggestions?
