Having allowed external content for a message, how do I block it again for that same message?

As per the title. I have allowed external content for one message (it is disabled by default). Finding the option to do that was easy, because there is a specific message with a drop-down menu to configure access to external content for that particular message.

However, now that I have allowed external content, I do not wish to keep it allowed (no need for external parties to know when and where I open and re-open and re-re-open this e-mail). The drop-down menu to manage the privacy options for this particular message has disappeared. That is inconvenient, to say the least, because I can't see any other way to get to those options. What am I missing?

Is there a remove option when you click the 'exceptions' button on the privacy&security pane? Or am I misunderstanding the issue?

There is a general setting for privacy. It lists addresses (websites) whence Thunderbird is allowed to fetch external content. I understand that these addresses work allowed for all and any message I open.

However, I authorised external content for a particular message, not for a particular web address. As a consequence, I expect Thunerdbird would block external contents when I open any another message which happens to reference those web addresses.

What I found is that the websites I authorised for that one message are not listed in the general privacy settings. And I could not find a setting that essentially says "cancel external content permissions for this message", in the same way that their is a setting that says "allow external content for this message". Does such a setting even exist, and if so, how do I get to it?

Please clarify. The option for that one message disappeared because you already decided the option. Are other messages now showing content? It is not clear from your message. Thank you

Other messages are not showing external content. There is no issue there.

The question is whether (and how) I can reverse the authorization to download external content for the one message where I have given it.

I understand that, for this message, external content has been downloaded and cached, and under normal circumstances, no further external connection will be made no matter how often I open this message.

However, should I lose those cached files for any reason, Thunderbird will download them again when I re-open that message. That is what I would like to prevent. Is that possible and how?

What you are requesting is outside the design envelope. You asked to allow remote content to be downloaded for the one message and now you no longer want that. The setting is at the message level. You can reset that by exiting thunderbird and deleting the inbox.msf file within the profile.

Thanks david. Hopefully that feature can be added in future.

I appreciate that you've indicated a workaround, and I confirm it worked for me.

For anyone who has a more complicated situation (e.g., other messages in the mailbox for which they do not want to cancel the permission), I would suggest that they create a new mailbox, move there the messages that need their permission revoked, delete the new maibox's .msf, and after a re-start, move the messages back to the original mailboxes.
