using Mac Sierra with Firefox 115.33.0 installed - message no longer supported - do I need to install the ESR version of this?
Hi, I'm running Sierra 10.12.6 on a mid-2011 iMac. I installed Firefox 115.33.0 in March '26, but now see a "not supported message" in the browser.
I downloaded the ESR version of this browser, but when I went to copy to the APPS folder it asks if I want to replace the NEWER one that's already there. ???
Now it says I'm running it on the ESR update channel. Did I just go backwards in browsers? When this ESR expires, if a new one isn't provided then, will I still be able to use/update/install Firefox on this IOS on this iMac?
Thanks! Elaine

Firefox 116.0 and later requires macOS 10.15 (10.15) or later to run so it would not be possible to use a newer version then the Firefox 115 ESR currently at Fx 115.33.0esr.
Firefox 115 ESR recently got a updates extension till Fx 115.39.0esr on August 18. The Firefox 115 ESR is basically based on the old Firefox 115.0 Release but with security and stability fixes since. Mozilla continued updates to support the EOL macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 and Windows 7, 8, 8.1 OS users for a while. Chrome/Chromium browsers dropped support back in Jan 2023. Normally the ESR versions are meant more for Enterprise users as they like to have longer term stability and makes it easier to support a large number of systems.
You will still be able to use the last Firefox 115 ESR update once updates is stopped however many websites are already not supporting or expecting people to update to a newer version of Firefox to use the site properly.
Btw Mac desktop and laptops uses macOS as iOS is the mobile OS for iPhones and early iPads as more current iPads uses the similar iPadOS.
