How do I keep Firefox from blocking Bluetooth?

For years, my Dell Latitude (Windows) laptop and devices connected to it via Bluetooth coexisted well. For this same time, I have used Firefox (latest version) only. The laptop connected to whatever Bluetooth device I was using and it worked when i used Firefox.

This changed about three months ago. According to my tech repairman, what has happened is that, although the (Windows) laptop connects with the Bluetooth devices, Firefox for some reason stopped allowing the Bluetooth signal to go through.

There has never been any notification from Firefox, never has been a way to edit a setting to allow Bluetooth to work, and no option(s) ever offered to allow Bluetooth to work.

Does anyone have a suggestion about fixing this; other than the obvious – use a different browser?

Thanks.

Hi

If you are trying to connect a webpage to a Bluetooth device through Firefox - this is something that Firefox has not supported for many years.

Is Windows connecting to your Bluetooth devices?

I would run the intel app to verify that your bluetooth driver is current. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html

Thanks for that suggestion. I did find a couple of drivers that needed updates which have now been made. The Intl app was very useful and you can bet I will keep it around and use it periodically (as needed).

Unfortunately, this did not change anything. Windows is obviously connecting properly with Bluetooth. One can see that visually in the sound settings window; as well as PC Settings under Devices. But Firefox is definitely strangling it. How do I know that? Because the same source audio plays via Bluetooth on two other browsers I have available.

So, in my non-tech thinking, here's what I got: Windows is working properly, Bluetooth is working and connecting properly. Firefox isn't. Now.

Bear in mind this problem only began about three months ago. For years before that time, I used Firefox to listen via Bluetooth a lot.

So, did Firefox in one of its ubiquitous updates "fix" something that wasn't broken? Who knows? It does kind of take the shine off Firefox self promotions as the best browser out there, though.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

I don't know what you mean when you write, "...that is something Firefox has not supported for many years."

Does "has not supported" mean 1) It lets it function but does not assist in its functioning if it's on Firefox? or 2) Firefox prevents it from interacting (connecting, etc.) in any way with an output result, i.e., in this case, an audio sound playing via Bluetooth using Firefox)? or 3) Something else.

In short, the often-used phrase in tech that so-and-so "does not support" something else is a rhetorical utterance that means little in substance.

I will, however, try to answer what I am guessing you are writing; and that is, while I profess to sometimes being in the old days too much, my computer keeps dragging me along and for several years, I used Bluetooth on my Firefox browser quite well. Until about three months ago, as I've written. Maybe Firefox didn't get the memo that said it wasn't supporting Bluetooth. My system apparently didn't until three months ago.

I appreciate your idea, though. It was interesting to see it.
