TIP it's easier with menu bar. If not shown, click alt key. From menu bar, you can select view>sort by

THANKS. (and for the unwary who want to toggle Threads on or off, after pressing alt key as recommended, select "view/sortby/ (threaded or unthreaded) THE TRAP: in the drop down menu, there is a Thread menu option right below "Sort by", and the thread on/off toggle is NOT under the Thread menu option. (that took me a moment to sort that)
