Transfer of email account etc to new laptop
Before I do this I think I need to resolve some existing problems as: I think there was an error in set up of email and/or internet provider as I have never been able to access email via thunderbird on any other device. A couple yerars ago my trash box suddenly became my inbox; delete means gone for ever, not saved to that folder. If you can point me to anyone in Edinburgh who might be able to resolve this all for a fee or exchange, that might be best as I probably wont understand anyone's answer! Thanks

Do you use Trend micro at all?
I've no idea what that is...so no!
Please provide some info so we understand what is going on. What OS is your computer ? Windows 10, MAC, Linux etc ? What is the part after the @ in your email address ? Who is your ISP - internet service provider?
In Thunderbird, is the email addres/account set up as POP or IMAP account? What Anti-Virus software do you use? In your 'Firewall' (which might be part of your Anti-virus product) is Thunderbird set up/listed as an allowed program ?

If Mozilla Thunderbird is not allowed access to internet due to Firewall blocking the program then nothing will work. So, this is the first thing you need to be sure is working.

What is working? (in Thunderbird) Perhaps we just don't understand
I tried the firewall issue above but that cjanged nothing. At the moment I can send and receive emails...as I said they come in to my Trash box tho. When I delete anything there is no trace in trash- assume becaue trash is my inbox. I was trying to resolve this before then trying to move over to a new laptop...I dont think perhaps this is resolvable via community; thanks for suggestions. Rona
