Where in the settings or in the about:config can one set FireFox to load only the current tab, stop all others from any activity/loading, especially on (re)start?

That are the sessionstore on_demand prefs.

Also, noticed, FF is transferring huge amounts of data in the background (many tabs open/restored, but not active, over many hours), even if it seems there is no activity in the tabs, how can this be totally stopped, so that really only the current tab is active and if nothing turns in the tab loading indicator, then it truly transfers nothing?
The services.sync.prefs.sync. prefs are about syncing prefs to other connected devices. Prefs that have a corresponding services.sync.prefs.sync.<pref> that is true are synced.
On some pages there might be running JavaScript that checks the server for updates as a possible cause.

Have no idea if this helped, but from very many youtube tabs it still creates traffic of many gigabytes...something is wrong or there must be another setting. This never happened on the old firefox, with or without bartab.
You can use an external network sniffer to check what is going on.
We already know what it is: FireFox loading inactive tabs "proactively" in the background. But this needs a switch so one can turn it OFF. None of the above has done it so far. Seems like the user is not supposed to be in control anymore.
It really is also a security issue...which should be addressed by the FireFox team, since not only is the web burdened, but the many tabs can be used as an identifier. Why cannot you have a default setting for each tab, to not load anything, unless the tab is active - this would be the normal assumption anyway!
