No it does not.
What did you do to activate sync ?
That is not needed for you to use Firefox as a stand alone browser. As you noticed it is for sync 2 or more devices, phones, and or desktops. tablets so that bookmarks, passwords cookies, preferences remain the same.
If is activated and can not get away from it asking come back again.
