chat keeps showing me offline when i talk in facebook to people and i am still online and logged in

i chat to people in facebook and i appear offline then when they answer they get the message that i am offline and need to send it as a message ie hello (send as a message) your chat message wasn't sent because madmax was offline . i am logged in all the time this happens ..i can send messages to people but when they reply they get the above message
