ETP does not retain excepted site

teaman1

A website added as exception is deleted next time Firefox is used. Cannot find any solution. Can turn off ETP manually via shield symbol in url bar.

Edition Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2 Installed on 30/10/2024 OS Build 19045.6466 157.0 Firefox Release

The input is pretty sane so no matter the whitespace shown in your picture the exception is added for the correct origin (it can handle way more wild URL inputs;D)

Do you have any data sanitization set to clear on shutdown? (I think if "Site Permissions" is cleared on shutdown, similar exceptions will also get wiped.)

Hello JBR

What white space ?

Tried adding site to all exceptions that appear relevant. All are deleted in next start of Firefox.

This white space: (but it's not an issue, just a remark… it works either way…)

What is your settings for "Site Permissions" or any other clear on shutdown preferences?

Right. So you're not saving any permissions, and removing all exceptions on shutdown, as per your preferences.

I am ? Thought an "exception" is retained being that it's an "exception". So an ETP exception is only an exception if certain settings are made to make sure the exception remains an exception ? So it's not really a true exception is it ?

Exception is a "site setting or permission", so even when set manually during a perma-PBM ("never remember history" or "always use PBM") session, it won't be getting saved past this one single session. Likewise for "clear on shutdown" if site permissions are included for sanitization similar exceptions are also removed (unless exempted from sanitization for some data types).

The workaround is to set the exceptions while you have perma–PBM turned off, so they get remembered for the sites.

I didn't find anything filed offhand for this — if you think the exceptions should be persisted even from (perma–)PBM, you can open a bug in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Core&component=Privacy%3A%20Anti-Tracking component that is probably the best place for this.
