TB 78.12.0 (64-bit) wrongly claims "Sent" folder doesn't exist

more options

Hiya. I use TB 78.12.0 (64-bit) When I send an email, TB tells me it can't put it in the "Sent" folder because that folder doesn't exist. But it existed yesterday, I can see it on the folder tree, and I can even open it. But I can't drag, forward, or move a copy into it, and the facility to cut-and-paste doesn't appear to exist. I can't even create a filter for it. Please help.

Are you talking about an Imap mail account ?

What folder is used on the server ? Servers have many names for a 'Sent' folder. Logon to webmail account via a browser. Send an email. Where is the copy stored? What is the name used by server eg: 'Sent' folder or 'Sent Mail' or 'Sent Items' folder ?

You need to use whatever is the default sent folder used by server - check it is properly subscribed:

  • Right click on imap mail account name folder in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'
  • click on 'Refresh'
  • Select that 'Sent' or 'Sent Mail' or 'Sent Items' folder
  • click on 'Subscribe'

Then check your Account is using correct folder:

  • Right click on imap mail account name folder in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • Select 'Copies & Folders'
  • Select checkbox 'Place a copy in'
  • Select 'Other' and choose that subscribed 'Sent/Sent Mail/Sent Items' folder on the imap account/email address name'

Restart Thunderbird.

Hiya, I'm afraid I still have this problem and have not yet received a reply. If it continues, I may have to consider changing my email client. I'm also having problems with my emails disappearing from my inbox. They don't seem to be appearing in an archive, and I can't find them anywhere else. It's happened before - I had to copy my messages from my ISP email account, and that was unduly difficult. I need help - I'm not a total newbie, I've been working with PCs since the late 1980s, and have faithfully used Mozilla products for some 20 years, or however long it's been possible. I'm reluctant to swap, but these problems are crippling for me, time consuming, and for a freelance worker very costly. Regards, GrumpyKoala007

Hiya. I don't know what the heck happened! I tried doing what you suggested, and got lost somewhere along the line. But I decided top send a few messages to myself, and blow me down, it worked! I don't care what it was, if you hadn't given me some help I'd still be wasting time trying to fix my software. I seem to spend a heck of a lot of time doing that already. So, thankyou very much for caring. Regards, Lex
