HTML5 will not work no matter what I try on the help questions win 8.1

more options

I am using Win 8.1 on a PC with the programme that makes 8.1 look like Win 7. Video on Youtube and elsewhere have always worked properly until HTML5 came along. The message when I try to play video now says 'Your browser does not recognise any of the video formats currently available.

I have downloaded HTML player and tried using the help lines from Firefox to make a link to HTML 5.

Nothing works to date. Can you help please. There are instructional videos that I need to see.

Thanks

Firefox itself has a HTML5 player and you do not download one.

Youtube used to have Flash Player as a fallback player until end of July I think.

Do you have a N or KN edition of Windows 8.1? as this may explain why you do not full support the HTML5 player as you can test at say https://www.youtube.com/html5/

If you do have a N or KN edition then you need to install appropriate packs to get the needed codecs installed.
