Just a few days ago, maybe a week I was prompted to update to the new firefox sync where i just used a firefox account and no sync key anymore. Since then, several times a day, i get a message at the bottom of the screen that my password is incorrect. I then click the preferences link it gives me and input the same password that I inputted last time. I have even changed the password to attempt to correct this and that doesn't change anything. It still tells me at least 2 times in a 8 hour period that my password is incorrect and makes me sign in again.

I never had this issue with the old sync.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Make sure that you allow cookies for the accounts.firefox.com domain if you aren't allowing cookies generally or use the 'Ask me' cookie setting or use extensions that deal with cookies.

Various data is stored in localStorage and sessionStorage, so make sure that DOM storage is enabled.

Try to delete the signedInUser.json file in the Firefox profile folder and delete the Weave folder (Sync was formerly named Weave). If that isn't enough then delete the prefs.js files to reset all prefs and maybe also delete the compatibility.ini file to reinitialize the profile.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
