Why Images do not appear in a email but come as an attachment
emails arrive with images etc as attachments and I have to open each attachment to see what the image is and guess where in the email it should appear instead of the image being in the correct place in the email

To allow them to display below the message: 'View' > select: 'Displap attachments inline'
If images arrive as an attachment, that is how the sender added them. If the images are embedded instead of being attached they become part of the email body. The method that Toad describes above will make the attachments display. They will not be placed in the text body in relation to any text like you seem to want to happen.
The sender needs to learn how to embed images if you want the images to be in a specific place in the text body.
