Can't get address addres et al

I've downloaded Firefox but when I click on the Firefox icon, all I get is the Firefox start page that has the logo and a search box on it...no address bar, no icons, nothing that allows me to use Firefox as my browser. Tried to figure out what's wrong but, obviously, without success
