Hi I hope someone can help me. Today I informed by Thunderbird to update the email. I have now received an Error message. Platform version '79.0' is not compatible with minVersion > = 80.0 maxVersion < = 80.0

Help, I have no idea what any of this means and I am now not able to open my email account and looks like I have lost Important folders. Does anyone have a solution? Any help would be appreciated Thanks Deb

Thunderbird kept crashing so I uninstalled it and then reinstalled. The address book disappeared and it won’t allow me to add addresses back into it to recreate the address book. I’ve had several hours of tech support trying to fix it. They copied address from gmail into Thunderbird but when I type an address into a new message it does not pull from the address book.

Can't find existing mail on NAS

I have my Mail stored on a NAS (in X:\My Documents\Mail) and it has been working fine for years. But recently the NAS failed and I have to go back to my 2 week old backups.

I have an internal HDD (drive D:) that is not being used for much else so I copied my Mail from the backup version of X:\My Documents\Mail into the internal drive D:\My Documents\Mail. Then, using "Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management\Storage\Disk Management" I changed the drive letter of the internal drive from D: to X:.

Now my mail files are stored in X:\My Documents\Mail - just like the good old days.

But when Thunderbird starts up it is an almost totally blank screen. The Toolbars are there but nothing else, and even then, the Toolbars are not working. There is just nothing there. No mail, no folders, no account details, no Address Book, nothing. Not even an error message.

I notice in Task Manager there is a little Thunderbird activity at first, but that soon dwindles to zero and still I have that near-blank screen.

There are some other applications that expect to find their files in X:\My Documents and they are working just fine on the newly restored internal drive X:. So that redefinition of drive letters seems to be OK.

What have I done wrong? How can I retrieve all my mail, folders, address book, etc?

My email host switch the incoming outgoing server names. I went through and updated the server settings for each account as well as server settings for outgoing servers. I am still getting a message that says "the connection to <old server name> has timed out". I've gone through multiple times and do not see the old server listed anywhere in the settings. Is there another place I should be looking?

  3. it worked before a clean install
  4. Compose new starts in HTML

I have a Windows 10 laptop [Version 2004 Build 19041.388]. I’m a longtime Thunderbird user. I thought I was using Thunderbird Version 68.11.0 (x86), according to the “TB Help About” info panel. Windows Control Panel indicates that this version is 323 MB & was installed (updated) on 7/30/2020. However Windows Control Panel ALSO lists Thunderbird Version 24.3.0 (x86), Size: 48.1 MB installed on 6/29/2020. How do I resolve this situation? I am concerned that if I uninstall the Version 24.3.0 that I may lose my Thunderbird profile with all my email history & contact information and that part of version 68 may also be uninstalled and then inoperable. Any suggestions? I discovered this oddity attempting to resolve a timeout issue that intermittently occurs trying to read mail. Thought this may be part of that problem.

"Server [SERVER NAME] has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there..."

A few facts:

  • I have not changed any settings before this began
  • I have various other email addresses pulling from the same IMAP server/port without issue
  • I spoke with the host, they see no issues on their side
  • I have not changed my password
  • I can log into Webmail successfully and pull mail just fine
  • It did connect once and pulled a couple dozen old emails which now have a current timestamp
  • I cleared my cache/history
  • I deleted the IMAP account and made a fresh one, same thing
  • I can send mail successfully

Hello I am unable to setup my university email provided through gmail. Upon entering my information I receive the message: "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account". Is there any extra step or something I am missing in order to set up an organizational account?

PD: I was able to set up my personal gmail account just fine and was also able to set up both (personal and university) accounts on my previous Ubuntu installation just recently.

The motherboard of my previous PC died, and I don't have access to the M.2 C-drive. Fortunately all my old email folder were stored on a separate harddrive, and they are backed up. Folders have over 20 years worth of emails in them, I was using Eudora before Thunderbird. Using Windows 10/64 Pro

Just installed ThunderBird 78. Confugered all the options as before. (Old profile not available, but I had screen captures of the settings). Created a directory with the same name for email folders: F:\cvrdocs\Eudora\Local Folders.

Exact same setup as before. I have about 20 historical folders with old emails, backed up. I copied them into the new computer, above directory name. But whenever I start up ThunderBird, it wipes out all the old folders, and replace them with a set of new, empty folders, the normal Inbox, Sent, etc. It is driving me insane. I need to use my old folders!

I have set ThunderBird not to check emails at startup, not to check every 10 minutes, not to delete any messages. Still the same thing (old folders deleted) is happening time after time. Should I uninstall version 78 and go back to an old version? This is not a feature, it is a major annoyance.

Please help. How can I get ThunderBird to recognise the old folders and not wipe them?

Hello everyone! I am using Thunderbird Version 68.2.1 on Windows 10 I have downloaded and installed Thunderbird, then downloaded and installed Provider for Google Calendar. Restarted the Thunderbird. When adding a new calendar - I click on Create New Calendar > On the Network > there is no option to add Google calendar, as seen on the screenshot.

I have uninstalled and installed Thunderbird again, read the forum threads and help articles. It is a new Installation of Thunderbird, I have never installed any other calendars, never really used it and unfortunately cannot seem to overcome this issue.

Would anyone please have any idea how to find a solution to it?

Hello! I have noticed the following issue: When I send an email to a specific address from my address book it seems that the email is automatically forwarded to an unknown (very suspicious to me) account. I noticed this when I found in my address book an unknown email address which I have deleted immediately but the emails are still being forwarded to that unknown address. So, I made a global search and found thousands of emails that were being sent to that suspicious account. I'm attaching a image with the search. Please help.

Hello, I can't set the automatic download for all IMAP folders.

I used the setting "mail.server.default.check_all_folders_for_new = true", I also added "mail.server.serverX.check_all_folders_for_new = true" for the created accounts, even the old "mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new = true". For each folder in Properties, I have "Check this folder for new messages" turned on.

TB, however, automatically download only the Inbox.

I am using version 78.0.1 x64. Do you know what else could be the problem?

Using Thunderbird 68.11.0 on Windows 10.

To reproduce, set:

Options / Display / Advanced / Reading: Check "Automatically mark messages as read" - After displaying for 6 seconds

View / Layout:

  • Classic pane
  • folder pane
  • message pane
  1. Click on an unread message.
  2. As soon as it's loaded in the message pane, switch to another message.
  3. 6 seconds later, the message you viewed for only a second will be marked as read.

Here's the crazy part: it is marked as read exactly X seconds after loading, where X is what you have set in "After displaying for X seconds"

I change that to 4 seconds, the message is marked read 4 seconds after loading. 10 seconds, it waits that long.

Note: if I uncheck "Automatically mark messages as read", that is honored.

Also, the feature works fine in Safe Mode. However, I have very few add-ons and they are all very popular:

  • Cardbook
  • Lightning
  • Provider for Google Calendar

Can't imagine any of those interfering. Thanks for any ideas.

Hi everyone, thank you for helping.

Just a quick question, the problem originated when one of my emails sent to a specific person in my contact list doesn't copy into sent folder. Just 1, all else is ok.

I tried creating a 'sent new' folder. Emails to that person now copies ok. However, now TB randomly chooses where to send the sent messages which makes searches quite hard.

Please see captured picture for reference.
