appears I have an embeded virus in Firefox
While using Firefox 14.0.1 out of the blue, I will see a white flash on the screen. upon investigation I find something( a virus) has opened a new window and taken me to an advertising page. The defination of a virus is something that takes control on your computer, this does. It allows me to close the window although it fights to keep it open. I normally run Microsoft Security Essentials, and have run that and..Microsoft Security Scanner, Microsoft Malious Software Removal Tool, Spybot, Malwarebytes and Windows Defender-offline. None can find anything. yet it continues to happen. Any help would be appreciated. any suggestions? It is annoying but I could live with it, but since its not right I never know what else it could be doing, and that scares me.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
