History not syncing properly between desktop and phone

comrade.mike

I'm not sure how long this has been happening (maybe at least a month), but my browsing history isn't syncing properly between my desktop and phone. Previously, my desktop history was syncing to my phone, but not vice-versa. Bookmarks, passwords and tabs are syncing perfectly fine. I've tried enabling/disabling sync settings and signing out and in again and now my phone history is syncing to my desktop, but my desktop history has stopped syncing to my phone. While having the full browsing history on my desktop is preferable, it would be ideal for it to show up on both my desktop and phone.

Hi! Since bookmarks, passwords and open tabs are syncing correctly, your Mozilla Account connection appears to be working, and the problem seems to be specifically with History sync.

First, check that History is enabled on both devices:

Desktop: ☰ → Settings → Sync (or Account and sync) → make sure History is selected. Phone: Firefox → ☰ → Settings → tap your Mozilla Account → make sure History is enabled. Mozilla confirms that History is one of the data types that can be synchronized between desktop and mobile.

Then, on the desktop, choose Sync Now and give it a few minutes before checking the phone again.

Since you've already tried signing out/in and changing the Sync settings, I would not keep repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting the account for now. If History is enabled on both devices but only syncs in one direction, this may be a Sync-specific problem rather than a configuration issue.

It would also be useful to know whether you're using Firefox for Android or Firefox for iOS, and the Firefox version on both devices. That information could help determine the next troubleshooting step.

One other important point: Firefox Sync is designed to synchronize your browsing history between devices, but it is not a backup service.

It's version 155.0 on Android 14 and 154.0.1 on Windows 10, although it would've been older versions when the problem started. History sync is definitely enabled on them both. It might be a moot point now as I've kept an eye on it for the last week and it seems to be working again, although with a delay of a day or so.
