I hate the way the new Thunderbird version looks, can't get normal number of emails at once, can't read any of them at the bottom of the page. Please give me my old version back. This was a horrid intrusion with no warning that it wasn't just a normal update

> can't get normal number of emails at once, can't read any of them at the bottom of the page

Please elaborate on these two points so we can address the problem. Thanks

I used to be able to read a short email without opening it fully. Now the space is so small at the bottom, the font so large. I also used to be able to see more email headings at once without all the claptrap on top and the huge space for from/to/subject. I snipped the page to show you, but of course it won't paste here.

Some tips for improving the display:

Try different settings for View/Density and View/Font Size.

To increase the space for the message body by reducing the space for From/To/Subject headers, try the Compact Headers add-on or switch to View/Layout/Vertical View.

Thanks, I had already done that at more. The worst part is all the space in the from/to/subject area and even worse the message below. If I change it from 12 to 11, both areas get smaller, but if I go back to 12, the message goes back to being oversized. More like 15 or 16 and only a line or two shows. I think I've tried every possible way of changing sizes and it just doesn't stay on the next message.

Hi, This is really messed up. I am not overly bright but I have looked everywhere I can think of to changed the font of the email list. Its all tiny now. I also want the non highlighted mail count numbers back. I opened the program ready to read my morning news. The internal email is normal but the font for the list has shrunk a lot and is now very hard for me to read.

I have checked settings, account settings, messed with all the font options I could see but nothing changes the size. Not to mention I have more then 1 email address so had to go through and re enter all the passwords and that meant a text for each one as well. A step by step would be great...Or you know the ability to keep the changes I made without them suddenly disappearing. Turning off auto update for sure. Some kind of notification that this was coming would have been nice. If it's not broke shouldn't fix it.

EDIT: Also the list on the left is tiny now as well.

Top right of the page there are three lines, one over the other - click on that and a menu opens. In the middle are View, Densisty, Font Size. To start, everything of mine was huge, maybe 18 font. I made mine 12 and that's the correct size for me. This will change all the email titles and your folders on the left. It will not change the email content to the same size. Or if you can get it to change, it will only be that one email and will go back to the original size every time. That is what is still driving me crazy. Can't find anything that will change it to an actual font/size and keep it that way.

more options

To set the display fonts for received and composed messages, Settings/General/Language & Appearance/Fonts & Colours, Advanced... set the Sizes with Fonts for: Latin, and repeat with Fonts for: Other Writing Systems, and uncheck 'Allow messages to use other fonts'.

It only works for messages by friends. Anything that comes from a company won't change size or font. Maybe font is 16 instead of 12 (maybe bigger?). I've worked at least 3-4 hours on setting up this crummy version and it still won't do what I want it to. I've been using home computers for 30 years, 20 for Thunderbird since it was first released and this just leaves me frustrated.

Thanks to anyone who has tried to help.

I entirely agree. I hate the font, I hate that it rejigged my folders, I hate layers of waffle at the top of the Thunderbird window, ... and I entirely hate that this was a major design change with NO warning and NO option to have the old layout! I tried to restore from back up, and that failed. I am SO unhappy with this update! I hate it! It feels like Thunderbird has yanked the carpet out from under me. I feel this so strongly, and I can't be the only person with this reaction. I am in tears, I am so upset.

IT SUCKS SO BAD THAT I AM NOW LOOKING FOR ANOTHER EMAIL CLIENT!!!

I don't think you understand the problems you have caused and it is NOTHING to do with fonts. I have several email accounts and I like to see them all in one place. the new version makes me hop all over the place clicking on various "Junk" and "Spam" folders to check them for messages. And "Threads"?? What is that all about. I don't want threads in my emails. Most times they are confusing in forums because they only show the top post. I want my messages in order.

The "Search" feature has never worked in any reliable manner and you would be better spending you time on that than messing TB up just so it will fit on someone's cell phone. I try it every time you do an update but the only way to search my emails is to sort them by sender and scan thru' them. My emails are my diary and got back at least 12 years!!

I REALLY NEED TO GET THE OLD VERSION BACK !!!!! REALLY, REALLY, REALLY.

P.S. I am retired (ex programmer/analyst) so I would be quite happy to help with testing if that would be useful for you.
