The search bar in the new tab page appears black with balck letters, independent of the theme
Every time I open a new tab, the search bar appears with black / drak gray background and black letters:

The same thing happens when I use google search:

I've tried changing themes, uninstalling & reinstalling firefox, deleting my user profile but nothing seems to work.

Does your OS use a dark theme? Firefox may be picking up something affecting the default background color. Hopefully a volunteer more familiar with Linux has a better thought.
Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.
