Unable to send emails.. There is no action after pressing Send button!!

When I press "Send" button or "Send Now" button directly from the top left corner or even through the 'File' tab, the email does not get sent. In fact there is no action at all. There are no pop-ups showing send message progress or error messages. Its just blank!!

If I try to save the email, it gets saved properly but nothing happens when I press Send.

I'm not familar with "Check and Send".

Have you tried running Thunderbird in its safe mode? This would tell us if an add-on is causing your troubles.

Check Account Settings > Outgoing Server (SMTP) to make sure something is installed in there. When you set up the account, that should have been filled in if you used the correct information in the setup to begin with, but check just to make sure.

I have been using Thunderbird for more than a yer now. This problem only started after the recent update. The SMTP settings seem to be OK. Also, I have thunderbird installed on my PC which seems to be working fine.

Also, I have two accounts on thunderbird and both accounts have the same problem and it started simultaneously. In the meantime I am able to receive emails without any problem.

If this is a problem with the latest update.. how to I go back to the old version. My current version in 31.3.0

I appreciate your prompt response to my posts..

I have tried everything thats mentioned on : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Cannot_send_mail .

Nothing worked and I am unable to downgrade the Thunderbird version without uninstalling the current one.

Another observation was that I am able to reply to emails that I get in my inbox. So if I press "send" when replying to an email, it behaves normally. But, it when it comes to new composed emails, it does nothing when I press " send".

Is there a link or a portal where I can report this to the developers??

right click your account in the folder pane and select settings.

Is there an SMTP server set in the dropdown list on the bottom right? IS it the correct one?

Hi Matt,

Yes, I checked this and SMTP server is already defined. In my case since its Gmail, the SMTP server is smtp.gmail.com

As i have posted in my last message, the problem seems to be only with newly composed mails or instances where I change the recipient address. When I am replying to an email as it is, there is no problem at all. Something tells me this has to do something with the software coding itself.

This problem has started when I updated from version 31.2 to 31.3.

In continuation to my last post..

I also took backup of my Thunderbird with Mozbackup and uninstalled the software.

On re-installing, all my accounts came back without having to restore and the problem still persists.

Do I have to manually delete any records from C: for a complete un-install of thunderbird?

I don't know quite why you think you must uninstall the software. A re-installation merely overwrites the previous installation. I don't know what would force or prompt you to uninstall.

Errors like yours are often, if not usually, related to settings, and your settings are stored separately from the program itself, in its profile. This why re-installation of the software is usually ineffectual in fixing problems. And why all your "accounts came back without having to restore".

Please post your settings here.

  2. Clear the "include account names" checkbox
  3. Click the "copy text to clipboard" button
  4. In your next post paste - use ctrl+v or right-click|paste.

If you really want a clean start, then remove, rename or otherwise hide your current profile and start again. Or use the profile manager command line argument to start Thunderbird with its profile manager, which offers an option to create a new profile (and revert to the old later.)

Another observation that I made today was I am also able to send messages composed by clicking on email addresses on web pages or received emails. For newly composed emails...still no luck!!

I'm not familar with "Check and Send".

Have you tried running Thunderbird in its safe mode? This would tell us if an add-on is causing your troubles.

Hi Zenos,

"Check and Send" was indeed the problem. I disabled the add-on and my thunderbird went back to normal..

Really happy that my Thunderbird is back..
