I have a weird issue on a new install of Thunderbird on Windows 7.
Thunderbird connects OK to my mail server and says e.g 'Downloading Message 1 of 2' etc. However, the messages are not downloaded. No error message is shown, but no emails.... Server settings are definitely correct as I have duplicated them on another PC which works fine.
Sending an outgoing mail fails with the message 'The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) [myserver.net] was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.'.
This suggests some sort of network issue. Reinstalling the network adaptor does not fix the issue. PC connects to internet with no issue.
If I boot Windows in Safe Mode then Thunderbird does work, both send and receive.
Just to be clear, it is a fresh install of Thunderbird with no add ons.

3 Error messages I get but, not all the time. Sometimes it sends and receives and sometimes it doesn't.
Receiving mail problem: When TB doesn't receive emails I get the error message about too many requests so, I go the Settings/Server Settings/Advanced/ and set the number anywhere from as low as 1 to as high as 20 requests but, changing the amount of requests does not fix the problem.
Sending mail problems: I get these two messages almost daily now:
"An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: Cannot connect to SMTP server 52.97.133.162 (52.97.133.162:587), connect error 10065."
And, along with that error message, I get this one too: "There was an error saving the message to Drafts. Retry?"
So, no message saved to drafts means, no message to retrieve when it doesn't send so, I lose the message altogether and have to recompose the whole email again. Real drag. Well, I have learned to copy and paste the email contents before clicking: "Send" to be on the safe side but, like I said, it does not happen all the time. Yesterday, it was so bad that I thought I'd give my Gmail account a try to send an email because the Outlook emails accounts would not send. Hum? Is there some conflict with TBird and Outlook?
Anyhow, if it's just a setting causing this problem as many of the forums read, then, why doesn't it happen all the time? As things stand now, you never know when your email will or will not send. Spent hours, WEEKS on this matter searching for a solution. Uninstalled AVG and installed Avast because of this but, it didn't help. I shut down Zone Alarm but, it doesn't help. I shut down Avast Shields before clicking "Send" in TBird and it doesn't help either. A couple of other things I tried too: I unchecked: Scan SSL connections already in Avast I also unchecked "Scan outbound mail (SMTP)
I'm using Thunderbird 52.9.1 (32-bit) Avast 18.8.2356

I cannot see my messages anymore in my inbox. After I tried to see if I had new messages. a pop up came out saying that I could not get any new messages until I compact my folder or get rid of anything in my inbox. I tried to read any of those messages but I couldn't read anything, I could see the titles of the messages but not the content, then I press the compact option in my folders and suddenly everything went away. Now I cannot see any of my e-mails not even the titles as before, everything is gone. I tried to refresh or log off to start fresh, but I cannot do any of those 2 options, so now, I am lost. I can see my replies to some of those messages, if I reply, but not the main message, those are gone. I am terrified to loose all my important messages.
TBird locks up constantly since most recent update.

I get 'not responding' constantly, and end up having to leave the room for 5-10 minutes waiting for it to respond again. These are all Win10 machines. The one is question is a new pc (HP ProDesk Mini, 8Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD HDD, i7 CPU), and worked great until the most recent update. I have tried safe mode, and restarting with plug-ins disabled. Sometimes this helps, sometimes not. It seemed to be after a recent 'compact folders' session. I have TBird running on 2 other pc's with identical configs, and so far they are having no issues. I've resorted to using my iPhone during this time to do emails.

When I try look for an email, I usually type the search word in the search box at the top right and then sort the results by date.
This works fine on another PC on which I run Thunderbird under Win10, with similar (probably the same) settings for email accounts. Most of them use IMAP, a few use POP3.
However, when I do the same on the linux machine, nothing happens when I click on the "sort by: relevance date" button. Whether I click on "relevance" or "date", it's always sorted by relevance.

I have multi-email accounts on TB. I got the "Sending of password for user ____@gmail.com did not succeed. I've had occasional 'log in via web' security validations over the years with Gmail (I travel extensively) and usually I log in get the auto prompts and alls well. This however is a different beast, no prompts, no instructions,. Ive read all I can, tried all I can and am at the point of just going backwards to web-based usage (which is a killer as Im fully integrated with TB and have years of emails on it... Can anyone help?

I'm using Thunderbird version 60.5.0 (64-bit). Running on Windows 10.
Thunderbird gets slower and slower the longer the app is on. When first launched it runs at the normal speed. But after a few minutes it gets very slow. Even scrolling through the list of emails slows to about one per second. Clicking on anything in Thunderbird results in a delay of more than five (5) seconds. If I close Thunderbird and re-execute it the speed is back to normal.
I am not using any addons except Lightning calendar.

I cannot see the Mac OSX address book on my Macbook Air 2018. File -> Use Mac OS X address book is checked and Security&Privacy Contact is also checked for Thunderbird. I have no problem on my Mac mini with the same OS and same Thunderbird.
I did a few things to understand what is going on.
-> System Preferences Security&Privacy Contact is unchecked I can see the Mac OS X address book (empty of course) and when I do File -> Use I can remove it or keep it with the 2 other address books (Personal and Collected). It looks to work as expected. -> System Preferences Security&Privacy Contact is checked, I cannot see at all the Mac OS X address book. File -> Use is checked but I cannot unchecked it, which means that there is something wrong I guess. One more thing: the first time I want to see address book with Windows/Address Book, it will briefly open an empty Windows and then only display the 2 address books (Personal and Collected).
How can I solve this issue ? Is it specific to MacBook Air ?

For some of the mail messages in my inbox, I see a paperclip. This signifies that the mail message has an attachment. If there is an attachment, then the paperclip appears. But there are messages that have a paperclip icon, but the mail message has no attachment. For these "phantom" attachments, the paperclip icon vanishes when I open the message. Why does this paperclip icon appear when there is no attachment?
In the images below, the first is before I open the mail, and the second is after I open the mail. The RFC 5322 mail headers show that there is one Content-Type: text/html;charset="UTF-8" section in the mail message.

Starting today, one of my mail accounts has been unable to log in to thunderbird. Other gmails have been able to, so it's not a universal Gmail issue for me. It's saying I have to log in on a web browser. I've had this happen before, and have logged in on a web browser, and then all was well. However, this time, I've logged in twice, reloaded Thunderbird, and it's still persistently not receiving messages and telling me I need to log in on a web browser. Any thoughts on how to resolve this sudden shift?
