Thunderbird setup cannot confirm my email and password

When I am setting up Thunderbird, the install will not recognize any of my email (gmail or yahoo) and password combinations. I know they are correct because I can log into those applications and they work just fine.

Have you enabled IMAP or POP on the relevant web sites?
