Reverts to previous page, even in safe mode

I click on a link and it immediately goes back to the previous page. I even go to history and open a new tab and open the same page i want to look at and it goes back to the blank tab. Not all pages do this. It seems to be random. I tried about:config and the changing the window flip and that didn't work. I tried the safe mode and that doesn't work either. I'm not touching backspace either. Please help.

Are there particular sites where you notice this problem? Some users have mentioned experiencing this on Salon.com, Weather Underground, and a blog that used a particular advertising network. I'm not sure of the common thread among these, maybe it's the ad network.

This might be caused by the googlesyndication.com ad network used by many sites. It seems to be causing peculiar back-forward issues on at least one other site.

As a temporary workaround, you can open article links in a new tab using one of these methods:

  • hold down the Ctrl key when clicking a link
  • right-click the link and choose Open Link in New Tab
  • if you have a middle button or scroll wheel on your mouse, middle-click the link

Alternately, another user reported that using the page in a private window bypasses this issue, probably because of the anti-tracking feature. For more information:

Does any of that work for you?
