certain applications on Firefox will not work. Such as minimizing or closing Firefox via the top right toolbar. YouTube videos will play, but when trying to click anything on the video such as the pause/play video will not do anything. If I am filling out a form online, and I come across a drop down box, the highlighted item will not highlight when my mouse goes over it, and when I click, it exits out of the drop down as if I didn't click in the box, and it doesn't select what I want.

I have tried using Firefoxes safe mode. So all extensions were turned off, and same problems persist. I have also tried using the reset feature on Firefox, and it still will not work properly.

I have tried using Google Chrome, and even Internet Explorer, and they both work just fine, so I know this is a problem only with Firefox on my computer. My preferred browser of choice has been Firefox for a long time now, but if I keep having this problem, I like many others will just start using Google Chrome.

If I know it is not an add-on, and the reset didn't work, what could be my problem?

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.
