My yahoo toolbar cannot be modified and is essentially useless. The refresh button doesn't work, and none of the icons (apps) are the ones I used to have. The yahoo instructions suggest using the plus sign, which also doesn't appear. I have seen others having similar problems, but mine is with Firefox version 20.0 and Windows 7. My computer is new, and I used the sync feature to maintain my Firefox settings, bookmarks, etc, which may or may not be related to the problem. Yahoo help used to be better and more personalized. Now I can't even find a way to contact them. Someone elsewhere on this site gave a phone number, but I was on hold forever. Any ideas?

Chosen solution

One of the earlier replies suggested a reinstall of Firefox using this link http://downloads.yahoo.com/firefox/?code=108 You do not have to uninstall Firefox.

I tried that on my first computer and it worked. Now I have done it to the laptop and I' m back in business. When I restart Firefox it does not update to a newer version. What I have not done is shut down my computers so, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I don't know whose fault this is--Yahoo or Firefox, but I sure hope they keep this from happening again. I'm lost without my special icons on the Yahoo Toolbar.

I have the same problem after Firefox update to 20.0.1 yesterday 4/12/13. The refresh option on the Yahoo Toolbar does not work. I have all my extensions set to update automatically. This is very frustrating as I use my Yahoo Toolbar constantly. I can no longer refresh it or even add new icons to it to return it to the previous state. I usually have problems after a Firefox update but they can be fixed by refreshing my toolbar....not this time. Please address this issue for the many faithful Firefox and Yahoo Toolbar users. I use my Yahoo Toolbar constantly.

I also have the same problem. I have uninstalled both firefox and yahoo toolbar, then reinstalled which did not help. I have been a loyal firefox user, and my yahoo toolbar has ALL of my regularly visited sites which are VERY important to me. The toolbar enables me to navigate quickly to these sites by one click on the icon on the toolbar. I have gone back to firefox version 19.01, the last version on which the toolbar operated correctly, but each time I close and reopen my browser, it automatically updates to 20.01. I am more than frustrated, since I do not like IE, and Chrome does not support toolbars. Come on, Mozilla, surely you checked for compatibility for this toolbar before releasing this update - this version touts that it is optimized for yahoo compatibility - that is patently and obviously FALSE! PLEASE GIVE US A SOLUTION QUICKLY!!

What hope is there that Mozilla will help, when they keep sending me messages saying someone has "answered my question," when in fact, those "answers" are just others saying that they also have this problem.

hello helsharmar, mozilla cannot help or provide a solution in this case unfortunately - it's up to the extension developers (yahoo in this case) to make necessary adjustments in the addon to work in new firefox versions. there has been a recent update of the extension at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar - do you have this version installed yet & is the problem still there? if so please contact yahoo's support...

@pdiazverson - if you just use the yahoo toolbar to get to your favorite sites quickly: this can also be done without any addons in firefox: Bookmarks Toolbar - Display your favorite websites at the top of the Firefox window

philipp,

I thought I had the latest version (determining this seems almost impossible), but I downloaded the update anyway. Same problem. Didn't help at all. I can no longer find a way to contact yahoo support, either. They used to be quite responsive, but now I can't even find an appropriate link.

Thanks, philipp, I had never paid attention to the bookmarks toolbar before. It works great, and I disabled the Yahoo toolbar (take THAT, Yahoo!). My only criticism is that the icons AND text are displayed in the bookmarks toolbar. I can find how to edit this on the regular toolbar but don't see a way to do it for the bookmarks. I have room for all my sites, but I just like a cleaner look without the text. Oh well, this is better than dealing with Yahoo!

This worked, although I also have not restarted my computer yet. Wish I'd seen it sooner. Thanks.

I asked the question, and I would like to mark it solved but don't see how. The answer shown as the "chosen solution" was not chosen by me. What did work was the link to the Firefox download, which led me to install Firefox optimized for Yahoo.

I wish I could help with this one. I'm just stumbling along here and don't know how these issues are marked as helpful or solved. I haven't marked anything either. At least the Yahoo toolbar issue was resolved and that's the most important thing. I can't even find the previous post where that link was suggested as I would like to thank the poster. Good luck.

Wow! I used the link Hillhopper suggested, and it worked! I thought I had seen every download link, but apparently I missed this one. I will keep the bookmarks toolbar (hidden), in case I have future problems with the Yahoo toolbar. I learned some new things while participating in this thread and definitely appreciate everyone's input!
