Add-ons don't show properly in the overflow menu

I like to keep my add-ons not immediately visible, so I hide them in the overflow menu. However, they don't seem to display properly, showing a fixed-width box that only sometimes has scroll bars to let me view the whole thing. Most add-ons still scale okay, but my recently installed privacy add-on is unusable from the menu. Is anyone else noticing this issue? Is there any workaround or fix being pursued?

Unfortunately, there's not much that you can do yourself to fix the issue. It's up to the add-on developer to properly design a responsive layout that will properly fit the popup.

However, I have still pointed this issue out to the developers (see bug 1649045), since you're not the only user to have pointed out this issue.

That is how the overflow menu work, if you open a sub menu then you replace the current content of this panel with the content of the extension and the width of this panel is fixed unlike when the button is on the Navigation Toolbar.
If you place for instance the Bookmarks Menu button ('star on a tray') in the overflow area or make the window so small that it ends up there then this button works like the Bookmark menu in the Library button.
