upgrade from 74 to 75 the browser won't go to any site. The lovely new big address bar shows up, but that's about it. Other browsers no problem.

So I generally keep Firefox up to date, letting the system manage itself, but this time I have had to disable this update. When I update, either through the automatic updates, or even from a fresh install of 75 (or beta 76) the browser starts, I see the lovely new address bar, albeit blank, and the browser just hangs right there. I can type in the nifty new bar, but nothing happens, no browsing to a site, no opening configs, nothing.

I have this issue on windows 7, 8 and 10 machines, so it's not an OS issue.

When an update does happen it chews up my profiles too and I have to end up rebuilding those. Only when I go back to 74 does Firefox work again.

I'm at a bit of a loss here.

hi, we have seen a couple of reports where external software (like netsupport school) was hooking into firefox causing this. a firefox beta version 76.0b5 was just released and has a potential fix for this - could you try it?: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-beta

on the first start it will likely exhibit the same problem, but after you force-close it once and restart the beta build, firefox should hopefully be back in working order.

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Nope, not AV related. None of the 4 systems have the same AV and one of them has none.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

Did the problem start when you updated to v74 or v75 ?

Those steps worked. And I do have Crosstec Schoolvue running on all but one of the machines.

Fred, the problem showed up going from 74 to 75+. Phillipp's bit above did work, but it's a tough solve in how it plays out. I'm good with things working now.

thanks again,
