I am using Win 7 on a Dell Optiplex... I have noticed that for the past 4 updates from FF, my system gets slower and slower. This is greatly noticed from login as well as waiting for websites to load. Is there anything to be done in order to fix this? It has become burdensome and frustrating. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Hi, you can try these : Please go to Options --> General --> Performance and uncheck the box for Use Recommended Settings and try changing the Process count to 2 and can also go up but note more cpu and ram will be used. You will need to reboot after makng any changes.

Then go to Privacy & Security and down to Permissions. Please ensure that the box for Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser is checked.

You can also do this at any time :

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Please report back to say if this helped you!

Thank you.

PKshadow, Thank you so much for your help. I have made the changes you outlined and I will run with it to see how it goes. I have not reinstalled but in the event the changes made do not work well, I will do the reinstall. Again, thank you so much for your time and assistance. Ravyn

I downloaded the new Firefox today. I have done all of the suggested items to resolve the problem of everything running like there is jam in my system and getting worse each time I download an "update". I have not done a new install yet. After todays download it is awful. Load time for online sites is just horrific. Not just sites like FB or whatever, but any site I go to. I have used Firefox for many years and I just don't understand why this is causing such a problem. Is the only thing left for me to try the uninstall/reinstall tactic? Thank you so much for your help.

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 29.0 r0 by removing it with this tool : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html If you use it Reinstall with Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.134 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

Hi forgot to mention the above last time. Look in the Control Panel at the Flash Applet for what version you have.

It depends on how mach ram you have, what speed is your processor, has the motherboard ever had updates, can your video card still be updated. Do you defrag monthly, do you run MS Disk Cleanup weekly. Do you keep things optimized and updated.

There are a lot of variables there. No one system is the same. Please give your self a scan : https://www.malwarebytes.com/

SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST''''is issue still there ?

PKshadow, thank you so much for your help. I will do the things you have suggested above and I will report back here with the results (hopefully positive). I was unaware of the "flash" issue so I will do that first. I need to get a new, more powerful graphics card. Not sure how that figures into things loading slowly but I hope to buy a new one soon. I do run malware check every week & I will do defrag each week as well. Thank you again for your help and I will post back here with results. Wishing you a blessed day. Ravyn
