Hi there,

When I try to access a file browser from firefox, it crashes.

example : - any "select an attachement file" button in a forum reply, - or even the native "save bookmarks" in firefox menus when you are supposed to choose a filename - or even the "add images" button in the support form I am using right now to write this post....

All these actions result in a firefox crash. I do not even have time to see the file browser anymore...

Several examples of crash reports : bp-739091d3-2c26-476a-a8a1-523231180228 bp-2e8c2843-5bc8-4318-8ff5-5f02a0180228 bp-a131769e-65a4-48c3-8a41-965a31180228 bp-094747a8-4e9c-44b2-8ab6-cf5350180124

I tried to repair firefox and run "at fresh", but it does not solve the problem. I have installed latest Firefox, latest Flash, and latest Windows 7 updates.

I saw similar topics here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1185621 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1199313

but it does not solve my problem...

Any help ?

Chosen solution

hi, another user with same type of crash reported he could fix it by disabling the "Automatically expand to current folder" setting in windows explorer: https://www.howtogeek.com/102905/set-the-navigation-pane-tree-to-automatically-expand-in-windows-7/ does this work in your case too?

Hi Philipp.

Tx for your answer. You did find a good clue. Infact disabling this option solved the problem.

But i need this option that I'm using while I browse files on my hardrive. I tried to reactivate it but it crashes again.

I suspected it was a problem with a default path that was not valid anymore.

So I disabled the option again, open firefox and select a file (from this forum, using "add images"). I choose a valid path. I worked as intended.

Then I enabled the option and now it works again !!!

So thanks for your valuable help.

Hi,

I have the same crashing feature in Firefox V60.0.2 (64-bit).

I think that it has something to do with the handling of the filesystem. With Solidworks pdm installed wheter logged in or not the responese from the filesystem seem generally slower.

Creating a new folder always makes FF crash and I haven't found any reports with fitting date and time.

Try to delete the MRU (Most Recently Used) ComDlg32 registry keys with the registry editor. Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32 Delete the subkeys (LastVisitedPidlMRU and OpenSavePidlMRU) Be cautious with editing the registry as there is no Undo possible: all changes are applied immediately. You can export registry keys before making changes.
