Can I retrieve information from FireFTP? Did not know it was going away.

I didn't realize FireFTp would be gone in the newest update and I need to retrieve the login information that was stored in it. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks for any help.

You can see if you can locate these files in the profile folder.

  • fireFTPsites.dat
  • fireFTPprograms.dat

Password are probably stored in the Firefox Password Manager.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

FYI, fireFTPsites.dat is a JSON-format file. If you change the file extension to .json and drop it on a Firefox tab, you can get a structured view of the file that is more readable. But I guess not much easier to copy/paste to your new FTP program.

Thanks, cor-el and jscher2000. I've combined your advice and managed to open the FTPsites file as a .json in Firefox, but unfortunately the passwords are still not readable. I think I may have located some backup data, however, so all is not lost.

Hi sdramsey, sorry if I muddied the waters, the passwords are in logins.json, and the best way to view them is from inside Firefox where Firefox will decrypt them for you. See: Password Manager - Remember, delete and edit logins and passwords in Firefox
