when i try to open a link in a word document i get the attached message. Default browser: Firefox. Links on web pages, email, etc. work just fine. have tried a regedit fix found online, but did not fix the problem. did not have this problem earlier -- maybe prior to the last major program upgrade?

My problem had no connection to chrome (I was using Firefox, but had same error trying to open a link in any Office program in other browsers), but with trial and error this is what finally worked for me

   Open Regedit
   Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
Right click the value for the .html key and select Modify
   Set value to .FireFoxHTMLfile
Set value of .htm to .FireFoxhtmfile
Set values for .xht to xhtfile and .xhtml to .xhtmlfile

have no idea why the .html and .htm had to be browser specific, but .xht and .xhtml had to be generic -- but after trying a bunch of different combinations, this was the one that finally worked.

The message is already telling what the problem is. If they block such actions there nothing you can do to override it and now one here will give help to circumvent their security settings.

That is a Windows 10 Error Message I believe as I have that in Update though on the page. I would suggest looking around Win 10 and Make sure that if running Win10 security that it allows you to click on the link also in Word. You can no longer click on most links in on line mail for security also. Might want to check https://www.tenforums.com/

If think it is a Firefox issue : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.4 with a Full Version Installer

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thanks for reporting back on your fix.

One way this issue can arise is if 32-bit Firefox is your default browser, you uninstall it, then install 64-bit Firefox. In that scenario, Firefox installs into a different folder and that seems to break Office's ability to follow your default browser preference. <sigh>

To cor-el: I can't tell you how long i spent going round and round with this "outlook" problem, never able to connect it to links that didn't work in any office program or in any of three different browsers i tried. most of the advice i found seemed to assume that the problem was linked to uninstalling something like chrome, which i have never installed or uninstalled. then i finally found a query posted in december with exactly the same issue in excel, so i knew i wasn't totally crazy, and kept working around it until i stumbled on something that worked.
