Yandex mail only works in light mode in Quantum
Since moving to Quantum Yandex mail only works in light mode, see attached screenshot.
I contacted Yandex support, who advised me to run Firebug extension and report back the results. However, this extension is not supported by Quantum. I told Yandex this and said there was something called Developer Tools that did the same thing, but they'd have to tell me how to use it because I'd never used it and didn't know what they were looking for. Yandex replied that they couldn't help me with it, I guess it must have been too hard for them.
Anyone else had this issue, and if so, is there any fix (apart from using Edge to access the mail, which I'm currently doing)?
thanks
Dennis

Did Yandex suggest what to look for in Firebug?
"Taking a long time to load" may indicate that something the page is expecting to load was blocked.
Can you rule out a possible issue with a content blocker? That could be:
- The built-in Tracking Protection feature. More info on spotting the shield icon and managing a page's permissions in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.
- An extension that blocks ads or scripts -- examples include Adblock Plus, uBlock Origin, uMatrix, and NoScript (often there's a toolbar button to adjust how a page displays)
- An extension that blocks trackers -- examples include Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, and Privacy Badger (often there's a toolbar button to adjust how a page displays)
You can view, disable, and often remove extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any system extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything tha looks as though it could be blocking content? If in doubt, disable, or check its Options for configuration settings that might help.
Any improvement?
Hi j
Thanks for your prompt and comprehensive reply.
The instructions from Yandex were "Please run Firebug after the installation. On the bottom of the page, you'll see an information panel. Open the tab "Net" and try replicating the problem. If it still occurs, please send us a screenshot of the whole page with Firebug "Net" tab. "
I have 4 extensions and the one that triggers the malfunction is Privacy Badger. This was also installed with the old version of Firefox, and is not something I'd like to dispense with, I'd sooner just use Edge for the mail.
The problem may be something Yandex did to discourage privacy blockers rather than a Quantum issue. but it happened around the same time as I went to Quantum.
cheers
Dennis
Hi Dennis, good research!
So while you're on Yandex, can you click the Privacy Badger button and make an exception for Yandex, or see what trackers are being blocked? Obviously you want to be protected from cross-site trackers, but if you're already using Yandex and it's their own tracking, maybe in that case you can make an exception.
Or use a different search search with less tracking?

The built-in equivalent is called the Network Monitor. Press Ctrl+Shift+e to open that panel in the lower part of the tab, then reload the page, and Firefox will display a list of what gets requested and whether the request was successful.
Thanks j
1. Not sure on this, would probably feel safer to continue using Yandex mail in Edge, as I don't use Edge for anything else.
2. Will have to install the developer version and will get back to you later on this as I have some other things to attend to right now.
thanks again
Dennis

Not necessary at all. The panel is in all versions of Firefox. But either way, we know it's Privacy Badger so that is where to make the adjustment.
Hi j
Okay, done it now, here's the screenshot
cheers

My guess is that yastatic.net has files critical to laying out the page. Not sure why they are blocked; perhaps on other sites they are used for tracking??
Hi j
Could be a false positive from the badger, curious, though, that it only seems to have arisen since switching to Quantum.
Anyway, thanks for your efforts.
