How can I increase the size of the Search box?
I was upgraded to V. 57 and I now have a lot of unused space on my toolbar (if that is where the address bar and search box reside). I would like to lengthen the search box to make it more useful, but "customize" does not seem to allow this. What am I missing?
Chosen solution
You have to place your cursor between the url bar and search bar. The cursor will change the shape to bidirectional arrow and pressing it will allow you to change size of the search bar.

Thank you, that worked. I was trying it from the other end of the box. I also had to remove the useless blank space filler boxes on either end. I really question how the interface has become so non-intuitive with this release. I used to like FF, but it is far more complicated now than I need it to be.
Note that you can right-click the flexible spaces at either side of the location bar and search bar containers and remove them and have more space available.
Using FF 57.0.1
Is it me??? I can not enlarge the search field. I removed the "flexible space" options. I moved the Addons to the overflow area.
Why is something that was so simple...so difficult now?
Thanks
If you have selected to show the search bar in the toolbar in "Options/Preferences -> Search" then you can place the mouse between the address bar and the search bar to get a resize mouse pointer that you can drag left or right with the left mouse button pressed to adjust the relative width of both fields.
Hello... That does not work with my version. That used to work...but no more.
Thanks
That only works when the address bar and search bar are directly next to each other. You can try "Restore Defaults"> in the Customize palette in combination with the setting in Options/Preferences -> Search.
Thank You... I finally got to streeeeeech the Search field to what I want.
This problem is SOLVED!
Thanks Again
You're welcome hairymole.
Maybe post this in your own question as what works for you in case others find it via a search.
