Will somone please pickup this addon "Selectivecookiedelete"?
Title says it all, the author of one of the best add-ons ever made for Firefox stopped working on it in 2011. It worked flawlessly for many years after that but it now no long works correctly.
It's very simple. you white list the sites whose cookies you want to keep and the add-on deletes all cookies except those you choose when you close Firefox. (You can use a black list instead if you like, only deleting those you choose)
It no longer does so automatically when closing Firefox and it doesn't delete google.com cookies at all.
It would be totally awesome if someone would pickup this add-on and update it so it's completely functional again.

Let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies instead of using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies.
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: Keep until: "I close Firefox"
You can create an "Allow" exception to keep specific cookies.
In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.
- do not clear the Cookies
- do not clear the Site Preferences
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" -> Settings
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-browsing-search-download-history-firefox
- clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
- clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an "Allow" exception you may want to keep
1st, I'm using Firefox ESR ):Because FF is turning into chrome and breaking all my favorite add ons :(
The UI is unclear on those options. It seems I misunderstood them.
To me it says "allow a site to use cookies", not, "do not delete these cookies" if "Keep Until = I Close Firefox".
Between my OP and this reply I have tested out other addons and found that "Self-Destructing Cookies" does what I'm looking for and even clears the local storage, something I was doing manually with the "Foundstone HTML5 local storage explorer".
I also tried Version 1.4.4 (the latest version that works with FF ESR) of "Cookie Auto Delete" but it appears to have a hidden white list as it would not delete cookies from mozilla or google.
Now that you've clearly explained how the built in cookie settings work any addon soley for deleting cookies seems redundant however, when looking at the current "Exceptions" created by "Self Destructing cookies" under "status" it reads "Allow first party only".
I don't seem to be able to set exceptions this way using the FF UI.
I also see no way to clear the local storage automatically in the FF UI.
I do not use "Clear history when Firefox closes". I'm not worried about privacy at my desk. I just don't like people making profit off my personal information without giving me a cut.

"Keep Until = I Close Firefox" means that cookies that do not have an allow exception or are session cookies are cleared when you close Firefox.
You can set network.cookie.thirdparty.sessionOnly to true on the about:config page to make third-party cookies behave as session cookies that expire when Firefox is closed.
