This is my last ounce of patience. Uncle, I need help otherwise I'll removed firefox from my system forever. I've been a faithful user for ages and decades. But I have 2 problems.

 The home page will not change and stay changed. It insists on opening up 9 tabs when I click homepage. I only want one. If I click Home a second time, 9 more tabs open up. Yes I have searched for the answer and have even manually added the URL to the address field. Some of the tabs open up websites that are not even available any more so I know this is not a coincidence.
 Secondly, somehow when my internet security was upgraded, my firefox decided to protect me from youtube.com and doubleclick.net. Ah come on. I get the error that says it is unable to add the exception because it's HSTS. Good grief.

Chosen solution

Hello Nice Persons. After I took a deep breath, I thought it was possible a virus or malware had effected firefox. So, I removed it, restarted the machine and got the same 9 tab homepage. So I removed it again, found the location for the user files (C:\Documents and Settings\ [User Name]\ AppData\Mozilla\Firefox\ and moved the firefox directory somewhere else. Then I reinstalled it and the ugly home page is gone forever and I can view youtube.com too. I forgot I had to reset my toolbar preferences and other settings but so far the problem has been solved. Many thanks to the people who provided a prompt reply. l2w1428

When you open Firefox settings, can you verify that you only have ONE home page listed?

First, lets work on your homepage.

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display. Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want displayed.

  1. Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
  2. Use Bookmark
  3. Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.

You can use any of these that you wish;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any web page or about: page you want.
