I'm referring primarily to the Library's Search Bookmarks function (although the Address Bar may be concerned as well).

Chosen solution

As far as I can tell, no, the Library search box only looks for matches in the title and URL. (Custom queries might be able to check tags.)

Perhaps there's an extension which allows searching in the description. I haven't, er, searched for one.

Since you are familiar with the HTML export format, you may find that document useful for searching in descriptions.

You can set up Firefox to routinely export a bookmarks.html file so it's always reasonably current, then save a bookmark to it for quick loading. Please see this post for more information: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1062318#answer-729111

Thanks. I feared as much.

But search does pick up tags, as far as I can make it. I just tested it. Besides, if tags did not come up in searches, what would be the point of having them ?

So descriptions show up in .html files ? That's good to know. Would tags also be retained ?

Yes ! Very useful ! I have already set up my profiles to save to .html. I did not know you could save to the location of your choice, though. That's very welcome.

The HTML export doesn't support tags. Those didn't exist in Netscape Navigator when the file specification was created long, long ago.

OK, so descriptions, not tags. That's logical, after all. Not a big miss.
