Hi! Here's my problem. I download some big file via Firefox (several 100Mb). I check it once downloaded and everything is fine. But, after a few days, when I try to open it again, it's only 5kb big and obviously doesn't work... It is not systematic (sadly) but happened several times. It is very annoying! I have the feeling that firefox somehow rewrites on the downloaded file. Any ideas ? Can it come from Firefox or from another program? Cheers!

Thanks for your help (and thorough explanations) Looking into those small is a great idea. Sadly, I angrily and permanently deleted them... so I'll get back to you if it happens again.

I trust you downloaded these using "Save" (into your preferred location) rather than viewing them using "Open" (which might leave them in Windows' TEMP folder, vulnerable to being clean out or overwritten).

At a size of 5KB I suspect the file might contain text or HTML or another kind of content you could try viewing in a text editor. Could you try renaming one of these files with a .txt on the end and open it in Notepad and see whether it is readable and provides any insight on the situation?

As you may know, Windows hides common file extensions. In order to rename files accurately, I suggest setting Windows to show ALL file extensions. This article has the steps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions
