I work at a public service organization that deals on a daily basis with a multitude of people with varying computer needs. We have found that Firefox most generally provides the best, most reliable, and fastest service for our patrons. We have just been told that our Tech department will be deleting the Firefox option on our public computers, citing lack of security and too much time needed to maintain the site. What factual ammunition is there that we can provide TS to help save our FireFox?

First off, Firefox is one of the most secure browsers out there, in fact, all security holes in Firefox are fixed faster than almost any other program out there.

Also, does your tech team know that we have a whole version of Firefox made just for enterprises. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/

They may want to take a look. It's easier to deploy since it has security only updates every 6 weeks, and major updates only once a year. This means it's just as secure as regular Firefox, but much easier to deploy. Plus there is a mailing list they can use to get help and support specific to enterprise deployments.

Does your IT department want to reach out to me to discuss specifics?

Thank-you for the posting back. I will be sending our head techie your reply and cross my fingers that we can beat this back. If he wants to continue the discussion with you, what's the best way for him to do that? Lynn

Lynn,

I'm sure Tyler would more than happy to discuss specifics with your IT department. You can go ahead and pass along his e-mail address to your IT team. It's tdowner(at)mozilla(dot)com
