BBC iPlayer not working with v31.0

I've seen a few questions similar to this so I know I'm not alone in this. When I'm trying to watch BBC iPlayer live stream, after no more than a minute or so - sometimes sooner than that - it will apparently start to buffer but will not continue. After a while it will throw up a "Content not available" error. If I restart from the beginning, it doesn't start from the point it should in the live broadcast, it starts from the point I initially started trying to watch and freezes at the same point, i.e., it is stuck on a short loop.

Nothing breaks the loop. Restarts, cache, clearing etc, etc, nothing. Oddly, the is no problem whatsoever with playing programmes streamed from the iPlayer library. No buffering, nothing, works exactly how it should and exactly how the live streaming was working up until recently.

What have I tried? All the things suggested in other answers. Starting Firefox in safe mode, checking flash versions, turning off hardware acceleration in flash, resetting Firefox to default. Nothing works

What does work, without issue, is iPlayer through Chrome, so the problem is not my laptop, iPlayer, my internet or presumably Flash so what is the problem with FF?

Chosen solution

HI hemingway, I understand that there is an issue with the bbc player and that the error message "content not available" when you view videos. I also understand that you have tried all the basic troubleshooting steps.

Have you updated graphics drivers? Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL

If this does not help, please also consider filing a bug in bugzilla.mozilla.org with the details of what you are experiencing in Safe Mode.

Hi guigs2,

I have checked that I have the latest available graphics driver; I have tried with hardware acceleration both on and off and I've also tested with WebGL enabled and disabled. However, the problem remains.

I am now running Firefox v33.0.1, so the problem exists that version and also v31.0.

To repeat/clarify, the problem is that the live stream seems to buffer but will not continue. Reloading/F5 just starts it from the beginning again. If it is left for long enough, eventually a "content not available" error is displayed. It also gets into a loop. I tried to watch live at 07:45am this morning, it played for about one minute then began to buffer and the stream froze. I tried twice more and the stream started at the same 07:45am point, even though it was then by 07:50am! It played the exact same one minute video stream from 07:45am and then froze.

I tried the same channel 8 hours later - having restarted FF and having previously shut down the BBC site tab - and it played the same one minute loop from 07:45, rather than what was on live!

I tried it again at 21:30 and got a live stream, not the one from 07:45 but the stream it should show however once again it froze after a minute. Once again, refreshes of the page/restarts etc only resulted in the same short loop being played every time.

To reiterate, the problem does not manifest itself in Chrome or in IE in any way. Using either of these browsers, the live stream plays with no issue at all, so the inescapable conclusion is that the problem is Firefox-related in nature somehow.
