How do I stop //firefox.abs.avira.com/js/bunches/app.js:11 and similar unresponsive script messages, just with a different number at the end. It is becoming more frequent so obviously my anti-virus program is the problem but I don't know how to fix it. I tried adding the above URL to YesScript but it didn't work.

I did a web search. You are not alone with this problem.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

I followed your instructions and switched off hardware acceleration but I still have the problem and it seems to be occurring more frequently. I also attempted to contact the Avira support line but it seems to baulk at my email address and therefore doesn't allow me to post my query. The reason I installed Avira originally was because it was the least intrusive and didn't slow up my computer like a few other antivirus programs I installed and experimented with, but now Avira doesn't seem to be compatible with Firefox, which is annoying because Firefox is my browser of choice and Avira is a good antivirus program for a non-computer savvy user like me.

Did Avira install a toolbar or add-on? Disable them in the add-ons manager and try again.

Thank you for taking the time to persevere with this one. Under Extensions I have Avira Browser Safety 1.3.2 Should I disable or remove that one? That's the only Avira component I can find when I open Firefox's Add-Ons Manager.

Disable. If this is not the problem, it can always be restored. For now, disable all added toolbars thru the add-ons manager.

Thank you Mr FredMcD, your advice seems to have done the trick. No unresponsive script problems since I disabled the Avira Browser Safety Add-On a few hours ago. I'm a bit disappointed that I have to lose that extra security measure but hey, the problem has been solved, so once again thank you very much.
