HELP‼

Are there any •SERIOUS• “Thunderbird” savvy computer geeks in 155.0that could help me merge “old” user profile directories from *crashed* computer to a new computer without messing up either one?🙏

i used to do this stuff (with my eyes closed) but I no longer remember if I had breakfast today and they are my wife’s files! 🤬

I have new notebook computer plus the •entire• old computer data on a USB stick.

My family I are using Thunderbird 153.2. The affected accounts are all Yahoo POP accounts. IMAP accounts (Gmail) are not affected. Not sure if there was a Thunderbird update prior to this problem. Yesterday I saw the Yahoo OAuth dialog panel for no reason, didn't think too much about it and kept ignoring them thinking it was a glitch. That was a big mistake. I'm now having issues downloading emails from Yahoo. Previously when this happened a few years ago, I deleted cookies. That didn't work this time. I should have read support articles first. After reading support articles, I tried enabling cookies and allowing cookies from Yahoo, but I'm not sure which website to use (is it mail.yahoo.com?). I went into config editor and set mailnews.oauth.usePrivateBrowser to true.

There are 4 Yahoo email addresses (I'll call them A, B, C, D). I am able to access all 4 yahoo accounts by webmail (email address and password). We use account A, B, and C the most. Account A seems to be the most stable however emails to A's inbox will show up in A, B, and C's inbox in Thunderbird. For some reason messages in A's inbox will go to trash in webmail as soon as Thunderbird checks and downloads emails from all accounts. Which is strange since I have always set A to leave messages on the server until I delete them. B's emails are not downloading to Thunderbird at all and are staying in the inbox. I am hoping to access the OAuth dialog box for each account to properly configure them but have been unsuccessful so far. It's been a stressful 24 hours. What should I do? Should I reset the passwords for all yahoo email accounts? Delete the Yahoo email accounts and add them back? Or should I uninstall Thunderbird and reinstall? Any suggestions are appreciated.

When I sort on correspondents, if, say, I have a message from Susan, messages from Tom, Dick, and Harry will appear in the sorted list under Susan's name. If I then sort under date, Susan's name will remain in the list for Tom, Dick, and Harry's messages, even though the individual headers give the correct name for each message. I noticed this a few days ago, and it's still happening. How do I stop this?

These are some things I have explored:

   • It is happening whether I look at emails in Thunderbird or through Gmail on Google Chrome
   • Even if I clickndrag them from deleted to inbox they fall back into deleted.
   • I’ve tried gmail/settings/all settings/filters and there aren’t any
   • I’ve tried gmail/settings/all settings/forwarding and there aren’t any
   • If I access Gmail via Microsoft Edge, the emails stay in Inbox
   • I’ve looked at various things in Thunderbird and unticked something in ‘When New emails arrive’ because I thought that might work.  

It started happening about a week ago.

After a long explanation, I tried to add a file and lost everything. Starting over! After using TB for over 30 years, I accumulated a large number of personal folders to archive files to. Due to confusion on my part about pass words in Proton Mail and their Bridge, I had to reinstall my ProtonMail account into Thunderbird. Because all my personal folders were connected with the old "account" name, I didn't remove it, and the new addition seemed to be working fine.

After doing some house cleaning to remove duplicate and obsolete files, I wanted to move the folders attached to the old account name, under the new name. I thought I could carefully move my personal folders from the old account, back under the new Protonmail account. Sadly, that doesn't work like that. What I did find was that the original folders which come under the original "account", were created with an older version of TB, which put them in a folder on my HD. But the new default folders ("inbox", "draft", "sent" etc.) are mirrors of the Protonmail Bridge, which is NOT what I want.

So I need someone that knows how to either place the old folders back under the NEW "account", or how to create new folders that ARE on the HD, and then move the files from one place to the other.

Just to help clarify, here's the location of the old folders as per the "properties" info.

You can see the address for this folder is on my Drive E: I can go directly to that address on my drive E and see each of the files.

This folder is from the NEW account of Protonmail - bridge, and is obviously the web address of Protonmail. It is NOT editable, unlike the above location on my HD E:.

The issue is that the text I type into the top level of account settings, which has Account Name, and Default Identity, doesn't save. Initially I entered the email address and Thunderbird found the correct details, but I was creating seven new accounts and was going to come back later and fill in the details. However, the details on this page don't stick, wand it reverts to blank entries (as shown in the attached image), and each account's name defaults to the email address. It's awkward because if I create a new message it won't add a signature because that gets cleared with the other details on this page.

This might be related to an earlier question I asked Delete Account button doesn't work. since it's on the same page as the DELETE button. This suggests to me that there's a script engine that I'm missing on my PC. This is only a guess. I use Fire Fox as my main browser, and Vivaldi as a backup. As I say, this is only a guess.

Today I started to receive this error message when I went to download emails from my aol account to thunderbird. This is the first time this has happened. "Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox." We have plenty of disk space so that can't be the problem. I could see many other people are experiencing this problem and there seem to be a variety of solutions depending on the circumstances. We are on Windows 11, we don't have McAfee installed but us Norton antivirus. I tried checking the settings, I've rebooted, and not sure what else to do. I can't remember some of the other comments I read. However, I am not technical and couldn't understand most of the suggested solutions. How do I get remedial help to figure this out?

I have successfully setup and installed Tbird on my new Windows 11 computer. Now all I need is to recover my contacts from the old computer's Acronis 2020 backup. How to do that and/or what specifgic file to search for and recover. I have attached a jpg of the Acronis screen.

Years ago when I was using Thunderbird there was "fix" for the Advance to next message pop-up, which appears when you press N or P to move to the next/previous message, and that message is on another account. If I remember correctly I think the fix was going into the "debug list" where you could change individual settings if you knew the name of the setting, and set it to off.

Anyway I couldn't find that list at all in the current version (probably a good thing). Is there a setting somewhere or fix where I can turn off this popup?

SIMPLIFY THUNDERBIRD IT IS EXCESSIVLY COMPLEX. I CANNOT EVEN SEE HOW TO MOVE MESSAGES FROM THE INBOX TO THE RELEVANT FOLDER IN MY LIST. I PERSONALLY BELIEVE FIREFOX AND THUNDERBIRD ARE OVERCOMPLEX AND NEED SIMPLIFIED. SIMPLES. WHY CANT I COPY AND PASTE THE VERSION NUMBER. BLOODY ARESHOLES . AS I SAID IT IS BLOODY OVERCOMPLEX. AT THIS POINT I AM CONSIDERING GIVING UP ON WHAT IS CLEARLY AN OVERCOMPLEX PIECE OF SOFTWARE THAT REALLY DOESN'T LOOK GOOD EITHER AND THERE IS NO OFFICIAL SUPPORT SO WILL HAVE TO LOOK FOR AN ALTERNATIVE. I have a new windows laptop. I run thunderbird e-mail. I have about 13 e-mail accounts and numerous folders and a few address books and groups.

I need to transfer it entirely to the new laptop.

Where do I go on the old computer to copy files to a drive then go to new laptop and paste files to seamlessly accomplish this move?

I have attached 2 pics showing the accounts and beginning of the folders I have.

How do I copy/move/transfer everything?

I have an email account that I have had for several years and I run it under Thunderbird. I have recently opened a Gmail account and understand that I can operate this under the same Thunderbird (I haven't tried it yet so expect a few glitches on the way, as per usual! There are plenty of articles covering this, so I live in hope)! Potential problem is: I have backed up my old profile account regularly and know how to do it (though I've not yet had to restore it and of course hope I never will), What worries me is that if I follow the procedure to add Gmail to my Thunderbird (and it works), will I get a single profile covering both email accounts which I will be able to back up in the way I am used to; or will I get 2 profiles including a new one for Gmail so I will need to back up both? A simple question but I haven't seen the answer anywhere yet!

I've mucked up and Email Account and whilst trying to solve it, I have found where the Return-Path: email address is listed as a very old email address that is no longer active on any server.

So I'm looking at how to update it??

I'm a newbie. I am financially obligated to have an ATT/Yahoo email acct. It is 2-factor ID. Can't properly save and utilize the email there, but must keep acct. Need to set up Thunderbird so that I can transfer/save those emails to Thunderbird. ZERO help from Yahoo... If it is possible to do, hoping someone can give easy steps to accomplish. I can try to explain further... If so, very many THANKS beforehand. scooter
